Radio Physics Lab,
SRI-International
Abstract
A review of the present status of the HAARP (HF Active Auroral Research Program)facility near Gakona, Alaska will be presented. While the ionospheric heating instrument in the extended development prototype form is slowly working toward completion, many diagnostic devices have already been put in place including Stanford equipment. A photo tour of the site with a discussion of its many resources will be given. The past and present relationship of SRI with HAARP is described A beginning was made this summer on adding an Incoherent Scatter Radar (ISR) system as a diagnostic for HAARP and a radar summer school was held at HAARP. A description will be given of the early ISR tests made and the plans moving forward for a complete system based on the SRI-designed ISR equipment which is starting to be built for the National Science Foundation.
