That NSF funded facility is located just north of the arctic circle and about 150 km inland from Greenland's west coast. The purpose of the radar is to support studies of the earth's atmosphere and ionosphere in the vicinity of the day-side auroral oval and the night-side polar cap. Some of the basics of the incoherent scatter radar technique will be covered with an emphasis on the factors that drive the design of such a system. Discussions of a number of data collection strategies and radar pulse patterns will also be included.
