Part-time Position

Posted September 14, 2000

The Wavelet Research and Radioastronomy Group in STARLab has a part-time position for a student who can help put together a DSP-based data acquisition and analysis system for use at the Big Dish. The system will consist of a multi-node DSP, with dedicated multi-port memory, in a pci co-processor addition to a networked pc. The principal tasks for this position will be assembling the DSP system hardware, installing software development tools, building a real-time data acquisition and analysis environment, and the construction of a graphical user interface featuring multi-resolution, time-history spectroscopy. The position will support up to 20 hours/week, during the 2000/2001 academic year, and is available immediately. Experience with DSP code development is preferred. Interested students should contact Ivan Linscott, room 319 Packard Building, phone: 650 723-3676, and email, linscott@nova.stanford.edu.

A part-time position is available for a student to analyze radioastronomy archives acquired at the Big Dish. The work will involve first assembling sky maps from large data sets recorded at the dish, and then building feature detection software to search for interesting features in the maps. The work is ongoing with up to 20 hours supported per week throughout the 2000/2001 academic year and the possibility of extending into the summer. Experience with Matlab, or a similar analysis package is preferred. Interested students should contact Ivan Linscott, room 319 Packard Building, phone: 650 723-3676, and email: linscott@nova.stanford.edu.
